The oil and gas industry comprises two parts: ‘upstream’ – the
exploration and production (E&P) sector of the industry; and
‘downstream’ – the sector which deals with refining and processing
of crude oil and gas products, their distribution and their
marketing. This package focuses primarily on the E&P sector.
However, future versions of the package will also deal with other
parts of the oil and gas product cycle, focusing on the downstream
sectors as well. This diagram illustrates the parts of the
industry along with the principal steps in
