This section provides a directory of documents on techniques for
reducing the operational release of, and managing waste gases.
Reducing offshore emissions at source:
The biggest sources of carbon dioxide emissions are platforms and
production floaters. Relevant reduction measures include making
better use of process energy and more efficient power generation.
New and improved technology will allow substantial volumes of carbon
dioxide to be separated from flue gases and then deposited deep
beneath the seabed.
Separation plants can be installed at sites with high levels of
emission.
Studies are under way regarding optimising absorption facilities for gas
turbine exhausts, carbon dioxide compression and pipelines to deposition
sites/reservoirs. Using carbon dioxide for pressure support to improve
oil recovery is also under consideration.
