Emissions Document Directory > Decommissioning

There are now more than 6,500 offshore oil and gas installations worldwide. About 4,000 of these are in the US Gulf of Mexico, 950 in Asia, 700 in the Middle East and 400 are in Europe.

It is a simple fact that a given installation may only have a useful life of 20 years or so. At the end of that time, unless it is re-used or redeveloped, it must be decommissioned . (source: OGP, UKOOA, OLF).

Maureen is a steel gravity base structure with integral storage contained in three large subsea tanks. Although there are three gravity based storage tanks in the Persian Gulf and one gravity based production platform in West Africa, Maureen is unique in that production, drilling facilities, oil storage and accommodation have all been integrated into a single platform which was designed for refloat and re-use from the very beginning of the design phase. It is the integration of the storage which provides the buoyancy necessary for towing to and from the Maureen field. top
